Scrap Cards

As you know I hate to waste.
So I have been trying to find a way to use up my scraps. Believe me I have a lot, as I am sure you all do.
So one way I have thought to use them up is by making card sets.
I know this isn't a new idea. But its a good one ;)

I have a file on my computer that I put sketches and cards that inspire me into.
This one was from Riley Fitzgerald. Her card has more embellishments on it. But I wanted to keep it simple.
Believe me it was harder then I thought. I thought I could colour a image, oh maybe some brads, or maybe some inking or ribbon.....I had to remind myself to KISS (Keep It Simple Silly).

My plans for these cards, is to make a set of 10, Two of each colour.

So far I have just done the blue and the pink set.
I am also planning on making a box to fit all the cards and envelopes together.
You know I haven't even made a dent into my scraps yet.

Onto My Day:
I had to wake up early to drive Kristy to work at 7:00am. She slept in, woke up 15 minutes before she was to be there, good thing she works close to home.
Spent the evening watching football, ya you heard that right. Hubby wanted to watch the Notre Dame game. He isn't a big sports buff, but he was looking forward to seeing this one. So I brought up my supplies and worked on these cards as she watched the game.

I hope you all had a creative Saturday :)

Tracy :)

  1. I think the scraps know we are trying to use them up so they mate and multiply like gremlins and before you know it the pile has taken over your craft room!
    Great cards, very nicely done!

  2. Great idea for scraps cards. I love making sets...
That is what my gardening cards are going to be...probably a couple of sets of 3 each.

You were mentioning about making the box to hold your sets...
I will try to organize my self to post about it soon...but sometimes I make the cards "notesized" just a titch smaller than standard. The envelope size is one that can be easily purchased. I then go to Dollarama or Dollar Giant and buy the kids mini metal
lunchkits. I try to watch for ones that have a non offensive colour on the sides. Doesn't matter about the back and front as you are going to cover that with patterned paper. My faves are ones with black sides and bart simpson or something equally offensive on the front. Cover the F and B up, add a strip of contrast, a couple flowers and tada...a gift card holder that hold about 6 cards and envelopes. I then tie a bounch af co ordinating ribbon to the little lunch box handle!

  12. Those are delightful! I love your cards! The birds in the center of each card is totally cool.

Your idea is really great. Culling scraps to color match. The different patters in the same color families is what makes these cards over the top. Awesome.

    Love you - Leslie

  13. I love these cards! What a great way to use up your scraps!

I'm always scrapping while "watching" football. I like that I can kind of sort of pay attention but not really have to!

That is great that Kristy works nearby! I have a very bad habit of sleeping in, but with taking public transit to work, that doesn't end so well for me!
