Timber!!!!

Note to Self:
Don't be so lazy and get a chair.
I grabbed a step stool to reach a DVD from the very top and at the very back of my closet.
If you remember I am only 4'10" tall, so in hindsight, I knew I should have used a chair or a step stool higher then 12"
But I was lazy...and well...I was lazy, lol.
So I thought if I stood on the very edge of the self where it is attached and kind of hop up, I may be able to reach what I wanted.

Well, guess what, not only did I NOT reach the tape waaaay back in the closet, I also broke the shelf and broke all my nails off as I fell.
Funny thing was, as I was falling, the only thought I had in my head was ....... "I guess I'm not as light as I used to be", lol.
No worries, I didn't brake any bones. But now I have to make a new shelf.
I know how to fix it as I made this whole unit by myself, with my table saw and my own design :)

I was saying how I thought the thinner (and a bit smaller) containers would probably work better, but were twice the price.
Well I used a coupon and picked one up from Michael's to see if I was right.
I am
But luckily my SIL/friend Sharon and I are heading to the States on Wednesday.
If you are from Canada then you know that everything at our Michael's is 40% more than the U.S price.
So I am going to print up many coupons and we will visit the Michael's in Duluth many times to get these at a good price ;)

Halloween Cards and a Video

Here are the cards that Kristy has been making for the kids in the hospital.
They are so fun and colourful.
I love that she coloured a lot of the images :)

Heather made a nice little treat today.
She bought these chocolate molds for Oreo cookies.
They were yummy ;)

Wayne bought a clock when we went on our trip a few weeks ago.
When he took it out of the box, we had a chuckle at the label on the bubble wrap "Attention" Remove bubble wrap from box before displaying"
Wayne's response..."What idiot would hang the clock with the bubble wrap still on". LOL.
Sadly the glass front of his clock was cracked.
Because we bought it on our trip, he just took the glass out.

Onto My Day:

I actually posted a video today.

I had recorded it a while back but didn't upload it to my computer.

I edited on my old laptop, as I am scared of my Macbook Pro ;)

Wood Mount Stamp Storage...maybe re-thinking this method.

I think I am very close to being done with my wood mount stamp storage !!!!!
Here is my shelf in my cupboard with my wood stamps.
the clear containers stacked are assorted wood stamps.
In the centre are my red rubber Stampin' Up stamps.
The stamps on the far right are my wood mount Stampin' Up stamps.

Here are my clear stamps stored on the upper shelf and my wood stamps on the lower shelf :)

I can't tell you how happy I am that they don't look like this anymore ;)

Let me explain a bit about how I am storing them.
I bought these clear, snap lid 14x14" containers I picked up (on sale) at Michael's.
These containers were $5.99 each, they will hold 3 layers of stamps. I found thinner ones, they were a bit smaller which I liked way better, but they were $11.99. And they would have only held 1 layer...which I would have prefered.
I labeled the containers with my label maker.

What I like about these are that they are clear.
I like that I can see what is in them.

To get to the second layer, I just flip over the container and then open it.
But once you flip it over the stamps are in the lid, so the lip of the lid isn't as thick. So I have to be careful not to knock the stamps out.
Now that I think of it....I may go back and check out those thinner containers...I can see my SIL knocking these over if she opens it, lol.
I may need to collect some coupons and send my family on a Michael's run ;)
I should have listened to Wayne. I kept telling me to get the ones I really wanted. But I just thought they were way to expensive, but why didn't I think of using a coupon.....

 

Because these will fit 3 wood stamps deep, I need a light way to make a spacer for in between the stamps.
Or they would just fall into a jumble mess.
So I took some thin foam from some packaging, taped them together and put them in the middle of the stamps....like a sandwich ;)








Did you know that today is National Card Making Day?
I didn't until I saw that a friend put it on her FB page.



















Because I was working on my stamp storage, I didn't get a chance to make a card....but I think I made up for it yesterday ;)
But Kristy on the other hand made a couple of cards.
Kristy said she needed a hobby.
Everyone has a hobby in our family.
Me=Crafts.
Wayne=hunting and fishing.
Ashley=Photography
Heather=Writing.
Kristy=Baking and Cake Decorating.
But she wanted to have something that didn't include eating, lol.

She enjoys making cards when Sharon comes over, so I told her about sending cards to the kids in the hospital.
She thought about it and really liked that idea.
So tonight she started with some cards :)






















Does it make my heart happy that she choose a hobby that she can do with me.....you betcha :)
My girls have always created with me, but as they got older it tapered off.
I think her Halloween card is coming together wonderfully...she even coloured the image ;)

Friday Night Scrapbooking has Begun :)

I am so happy that my Friday Night Scrapbooking has started up again.
If you aren't familiar with my FNS, Every Friday Night I invite my friends over to my house and we create.
Sometimes we do cards, scrapbook pages, colour or sometimes just sit and chat while the other ladies craft.
Tonight I created 10 "Thank You" cards for Ashley to give out to her friends or family that have helped her or got her a gift for her new house.

I used some of my scraps of pattern paper for the background.
Then used a Stampin' Up stamp and punch. I used a McGill punch for the dark blue cardstock, it backs the Stampin' Up punch perfectly.

I kept the inside as simple as could be.
I just stamped a sentiment on a recipe/index card.
I wanted lots of room for Ashley to write her thank you note inside.

Ashley finally got her blinds delivered and installed today.
She was at work, so Heather, Kristy and I went to let the installer in to do his job.
You can see her new couch here as well :)

Ashley came home for lunch just as the guy drove away.
But she brought us pizza for lunch :)

Tomorrow hunting starts. So Wayne will be out and I plan on staying home all day, relaxing and trying to figure out my wooden stamp storage :)

How do you store your Wood Mounted Stamps?

I'm hoping to entice you with some food, in exchange for your help :)
Looks good doesn't it...it was.
It was a Ruben melt from Applebees with mashed potatoes on the side :)

Now for your help part :)
I am working on my wooden stamp storage.
I completed "my clear and rubber storage" in March....but now I am working on the wood mount storage.
Don't you think it needs a bit of work?  Teehee.

I started with these containers I bought at the dollar store.
They are the same containers that I used for my clear stamp storage.
The middle container that is overflowing is just Christmas stamps.
I haven't labeled them, as I have not completed them yet.

Here are my Stampin' Up wood mounted stamp.
Also some letter stamps in clear containers.

Ohh but thats not all....
I have stacks of other stamps.
These don't show the Penny Black or House Mouse stamps I have.

Can you believe at one time my stamps fit on these two shelves???
Neither can I.
I am thinking of keeping my background stamps on the top of the shelf, and then change out the others seasonally.
Like now, I could put up Fall or Halloween stamps on here.

I have been checking YouTube, Pinterest and other sites for suggestions.
Most stampers are unmounting their stamps...I really don't want to do this.
I saw two suggestions I liked.
One lady put her wood mount stamps in Video Tape cases. They were clear so you could see the stamps, and she purchased them from the dollar store in a 5 or 10 set.
Another stamper made thin wood shelves around her room to display her stamps.
I like both ideas but not sure which one would work best for me.
I know I did a" post a few months back" about this as well.

So Please let me know, how do you store your Wood Mounted Stamps?

Went out for lunch today with Ashley, Heather and my SIL/friend Sharon.
We went to Michaels after lunch and can you believe I left there with 5 of their $1.50 wooden stamps, lol.

I'm giddy with happiness.

And it doesn't take much to make me happy ;)

Remember this card I made a few months ago?
I was pretty happy to see that I made the top 3 on the "a Die for a Sketch Challenge" http://adieforasketch.blogspot.ca/2013/09/winner-and-top-3-challenge-no-15.html   :)

Another pleasant surprise was to see my mug on the "Tim Holtz blog".
I visit his blog once a month to check out his tags, but when I saw he had a post on Scrapfest 2013, I wanted to check it out.
When I saw my photo I kind of got a bit excited. It was later in the evening when I saw this and Wayne was sleeping, but Heather and Kristy were awake :)
So I shared my excitement with them.....for some reason they weren't as excited as I was...I think I heard them mention "mom's so cute", lol.

Oh, you can't see me....I'm the one on the far right, leaning in to get a better view of his work.
I know I'm pathetic aren't I, lol.

Onto My Day:
I spent most of my time at home, as I had a silly migraine today.
My friend came over for some tea and a visit.
The girls kept bugging me to go for a nap. But that is not fun, so I went to my scrapbook room and cleaned up a bit.
I also received a couple of awesome phone calls from two of my great friends :)
Migraine is now gone and I am so happy about that :)

Closet Re-do...or should I say Closet Create

As you all know, my daughter Ashley bought a home in August.
She has a bit of a dilemma, too many clothes and no closet space.
The few closets she does have, are more like a cubby then a closet.
So we have been trying to come up with the perfect way so store her clothes.

She wanted them in her dressing room.
She wanted it to look like a boutique.
But it also needed to be strong enough to carry all the weight of her mountain of clothes.
My Ashley is a great pinterest follower and pinner, and saw this idea Slanted ceiling closet
This small door leads to attic crawl space, perfect for storing seasonal decoration. So she still wanted access to it, but didn't need to see it.

Heather and I went and picked up the supplies we needed for this.
After Ashley was done work, we came back home to pick up the rest of her clothes.
Not only are they piled in the back of the jeep, but the back seats are full as well.
And these don't include the ones she has already moved, lol.

The hardest part of this was finding the studs in the ceiling.
I didn't have my stud finder, but by knocking on the walls and measuring between where the studs should be, we hit them every time ;)

Here it is, nice and sturdy.
This is also a better view of the slanted ceiling.
As you have probably guessed, her dressing room is in the attic of her home.

Do you think she has enough clothes, lol.
This isn't even all of them.
If you noticed, I put 2 supports in the middle to hold all this weight.

In the centre of her room she has two dressers that she purchased from Ikea and painted them white.
She then pushed them together and displays her jewellery, nail polish and other pretty girly things on it.
I will share more photos, once she has it perfected ;)

Her clothes are on display and easily accessible, and some of her shoes are displayed below...yes I said some of them ;)
