Defunkifying my Life mission 14...6x6 paper packs

Remember the trouble I was having picking out paper yesterday for my card?
Then I came up with the idea that I should re-organize my 6x6 and 8x8 paper packs.
Well, I have completely finished them :)
Here they are, all pretty in their new homes :)
Doesn't this just make you smile.....well it makes me smile.
I love to organize...yes, its an illness I think.

Here they are all in the storage unit.
This sits in my laundry room, as I kind of ran out of room in my scrap/craft room.
The door on the right takes you into my scrap room.
Don't pay attention to the wall colour...it was a bad choice, lol.
The last 2 shelves hold my girl stamps.

Okay so lets get down to business now shall we.
First thing we have to do is gather up all our paper packs.
Yes, all of them.....
See how I kept them before, no real theme and all the containers were different.

Now seperate them in themes...if that is how you like to organize.
Here is how I am keeping mine :
Pastels - light coloured papers
Seasonal - Christmas and Halloween
Vintage - Browns, blacks, deep colours
Whimsical - Fun, bright colours

Purge...nope, never, lol.

Yes I have 3 of the same paper packs, lol. I know I bought one for me, one for a gift for a friend, and the other....ummmm, I guess I really liked it, teehee.

Actually I think I had 7 or 8 doubles of paper packs.

Organize:
I like to keep my scraps together with the paper packs.
Because I use this paper for mostly cards, I like to keep all the little pieces.
The tiny pieces work great for paper piecing the "Cute Girl Stamps" dresses and such.
So what I do is use leftover envelopes and attach them to the inside of the back cover to store all those tiny pieces.
I have even used envelopes that your bills come in, I just cut them down to size.
When a paper pack is totally done, but I have a few tiny pieces left, I will recycle them.
















The last thing is to put them all into their happy new homes and enjoy the prettiness.
Does it sound like I got to attached to this process, lol.

I know many don't like to, or have the time to watch a video, but I know so many of you request it....so here it is :)

6x6 paper organization and some more snow.

I was planning on colouring and paper piecing some images and making some cards today.
Well guess what, I couldn't find the perfect paper.
Pretty pathetic isn't it. Especially when I have 82 6x6 paper packs and 23 8x8 paper packs..and more than I can count for 12x12's.
Yes I just counted them...hanging head in shame.

So I thought I should re-organize them and hopefully get inspired from all the pretty papers.
I store all my 8x8's together and then the 6x6's together.
I think I am going to change the way I am storing them.
So I brought them all upstairs so I could sort them, while I watch Wayne play his video game Walking Dead :)

As I was sorting them, I found a few (okay quite a few) paper packs that I had duplicates of.
I even had one pack I had bought 3 of....hanging head in shame...again.
But in my defense (which I need) I did purchase a few of these for gifts...mind you I think the packs I bought for gifts are in my sewing desk :O
Anyway...I am adding envelopes to the paper packs for my scraps.
I am hoping to get a video up to share more in detail on how I am doing this.

Today was a perfect day to stay indoors.
Well for me it was. I don't really like the cold, and I am really tired of all this snow.
We had some snow last night and it has been showing all day today.

Today was the day for the Polar Bear Plunge here in town.
It was to raise money for the Special Olympics.
Does she look a little cold, teehee.

Lake Superior was still frozen. I think the ice was about 2ft thick. I went to school with Warren (the guy in the video).
Because the lake was frozen solid, they had to cut through it.
Not my idea of fun...but they raised a lot of money for a great organization.

Another Washi cards and some treats

I am really having fun trying out different colour combinations with these washi tape cards.
I thought I would try my hand at a vintage one.
I do like it, but I think my favourite is the pink one I did yesterday.

This was fun, well not really, lol.
I stamped the sentiment on the washi tape just the same as the others, but like I thought, it didn't show up as well because of the colours of these washi tapes.
So I stamped on this film strip washi and adhered it on top of the already stamped  sentiment, matching the stamped one underneath.

 Heather and I made some treats today.

I make chocolate/marshmallow eggs every year for Easter. 

I was a bit late this year, lol.

I always give Wayne's dad some, as these are his favourite.

One year I gave him a giant one, lol

Well when I went to drop them off to him today, he was so happy.

We also made these pretzel/Hershey hug treats.
The salty/sweet combo is soooooo good ;)

I am so excited for the weekend.
We aren't doing anything special, but I just like to have my girls and Wayne around me during the weekend.
I love that everyone is all together.
Even if we are in different rooms, we are still all together.

Washi Card

I have been seeing a lot of crafters go for a more simplistic approach to their cards and crafts.
The more I see them, the more I like them.
I just find it hard for me to do.
Plus I don't really like how mine turn out when I do them.

I was browsing the web and came across this blog, Sprinkled with Glitter. I really liked the card she made with her washi tape.
So I wanted a go of it.
They came together pretty quick. I made both of these cards in about an hour....which for me was really quick ;)

I used a script background stamp. My stamp wasn't big enough for the card so I had to piece it together...not liking it, as it didn't match up perfectly.
I then took a white piece of card stock and adhered strips of washi tape side by side.
Stamped my sentiment with Staz-On ink. Staz-On ink is a must as the washi tape has a slick surface and any other ink will smear or wipe off.
Lastly I added some twine and popped it up with pop dots.
For the inside of my cards, I used my index cards, but adhered them to the card with washi tape.

Does this make me a bad person?

I was suppose to go for a helicopter ride today.
Ashley works for a gold exploration company and brought to my attention that the North Western Ontario Prospectors Association was giving rides on their helicopter today. She told me to bring Heather and Kristy.
Neither one of them wanted to come with me...but then Kristy changed her mind and we were on our way.
Sadly when we got there, no helicopter was to been seen, I guess the company closed up early today so we missed it :(
Kristy and I were a bit sad, so we picked up this yummy cheesecake to put a smile on our faces.

When we got home, Kristy and I went to town on this cheesecake.
So much so, that we didn't want to share it with anyone else, lol.
We relaxed in the living room, watched Step Up 2, and pigged out on this, yumminess. We didn't even use plates, each of us had a fork and ate it from the container.
I know, terrible......but it gets worse.
When we heard someone, we would hide it on the shelf under the living room table.
Then we hid it way in the back of the fridge under the left over turkey...no one will eat the turkey anymore, so no worries about anyone finding it.

Kristy said we should give daddy the all chocolate piece....not because we wanted to share, but because we don't like this one, lol.
Well guess what.
Wayne found it anyway.
I told him I had a real upset stomach today, he thought it might have been from the bun with turkey I ate for lunch.
He never...and I mean NEVER cleans out the fridge. Well guess what he did.
When he was in the kitchen earlier, he threw out the leftovers, and found the cheese cake, lol.
Busted.
Lesson learned, always share and I won't feel guilty when I get busted, lol.

Its the little things that make me smile.

A photographer I am not, but I wanted to share with you a little thing that makes me happy.
You may think....doing dishes makes you happy?
My answer to that would be...no, not really.
But what does put a smile on my face is everytime I wash the dishes I give the dish soap bottle a little squeeze first and bubbles come bursting out of the top.
Now that makes me happy :)

Yes it really is the little things in life that I get pleasure in.
Its my hubby and daughter coming home for lunch.
Its when I say something and one (or all) of my girls laugh (even if I didn't mean it to be funny) ;)
Its a heartfelt comment I get from a friend.
Its just sitting watching a movie with my husband.

I was planning on making an album on the little things that make me smile.
Lets see how long it takes me to start this project, teehee.

What can we make from the $1.50 bin?

Do you purchase items from the $1.50 section from Michaels and never use them...or don't know what to do with them?
Well for these cards I have used some stamps and papers that I had picked up from those sections.
I get a lot of emails from crafters who tell me they can't create because they don't have the funds to buy the latest and greatest products.
This upsets me, as I think everyone can create not matter what your budget. I also believe that the less we have the more creative we are. It gets us thinking outside the box on how to use everyday items in our creations.
But I am still not going to part with my supplies ;)

I have been really enjoying working with sketches lately.
They don't always turn out like the original sketch, but it is still inspiration
These two cards didn't come from a sketch though, but from Amy of Prairie Paper & Ink.
I had some of these $1.50 stamps from Michael's and wanted to use them.
Isn't this little girl silhouette with the basket so sweet.

I used this journal spot that Becky had gifted me :)

The papers I used were also from the $1.50 section at Michaels. It was the Paula Dean paper collection.
See you don't need the latest and greatest products to make a few nice cards :)

Onto My Day:
Today was a day off for Kristy again. So I took her out for lunch, then we went shopping for a bit...didn't buy anything...except a couple of chocolate eggs ;)
Then picked up some groceries.
I told Kristy we could do whatever she wanted to do.
So we watched Step Up together..nothing like some eye candy for her day off ;)
