One Good Friend...Art Journal page

I have a few groups of friends that are into art journaling and we give out challenges to keep us motivated to try new things.
This is our 5th challenge and my friend Lynne chose the theme this time.
It was to use circles, your favourite colour and some type of texture.

Here is my take on the challenge:

Again I used some of my girl images these ones are from the Prima line by Julie Nutting.
If you know me then you know my favourite colour is burgundy.

I had so much fun with this background.
I started by adding gesso to my page and then adding some colour with Vicki Boutin art crayons.
One of the things I really love about Vicki's crayons is that there is no waste..you can use the whole crayon right up to the tiniest piece and the wrapper is just that...a paper wrapper that can be recycled!
And of course there are some beautiful colours.

Because I used gesso first, I was able to wipe some colour away to give a pattern to my page.
I used this mini circle stencil and with a baby wipe on top of it, I wiped the colour away...pretty cool eh?!
And see these glossy darker circles??
I used (again) Vicki Boutin's iridescent glaze and added a bit of the art crayon to add some colour to the glaze for my texture.
This is the same colour I used on the background...but the colour is more vibrant.

I then used an empty paper loo roll dipped into black paint to get my black circles around the glazed circles and the did some splatters with the paint, which I watered down a bit.
The sentiment I printed on my computer and cut to size.

For the dolls I just used some pencil crayons to colour them up and used some pretty pattern paper and fussy cut out their dresses.

There you have it my completed art journal page for our challenge.
I am pretty impressed that I remember all of my steps as I had made this page on the May Long weekend at my friend Sharon's camp :)
Oh yes, and the grass is some washi tape.

Here is everyone's take on this challenge.
I know I say it every time, but I just love how all of our pages are so different even though we all follow the same challenge.

I hope you all enjoyed a peek into my art journal, and I hope you all have a very creative day.

Adventures Await.... Art journal page

I have a few groups of friends that are into art journaling and we give out challenges to keep us motivated to try new things.
This is our 4th challenge and I was to pick the theme.
I wanted us to use a girl image and something that represents you.

Here is my take on the challenge:

I created this page during the May long weekend that my daughters and I spent at my friend Sharon's camp.
What represents me is reading and writing. I love to do both.
And I love these gorjuss girl images.

I really like the vintage look that distress inks give me.
I started with inking the pages and then stamping, also with distress ink, using a script stamp.

And to make it look even more vintage I also inked around the edges of the pages.
It is a lot of work, but so worth it for the look I wanted.

That was...until I dropped the ink pad...oops.

I made a miniature  book for my girl to hold.
It also has pages that can be flipped :)
I wanted a bigger girl and also didn't want to bring my markers on this crafty get away, so I printed up an already coloured image and enlarged it to the size I wanted.

I used the Tim Holtz typewriter die to cut out the vintage typewriter and added a pattern paper with typed words on it to the die cut piece.
The books are from my stamps that I stamped and again enlarged, and coloured with some distress inks.

Here again is my completed page.
I really like how it turned out and this does show my interests.

Here are everyone's challenge pieces who took on this challenge.
I love how they are all so different even though we all followed the same challenge.

I hope you all enjoyed a peek into my art journal and hope you all have a very creative day.

We all need Space to Grow..art journal page and process

I have a few groups of friends who are into art journaling and we like to challenge each other to encourage us all to art journal more.
This group of friends is new to art journaling and this was only our 3rd challenge!

The theme of this challenge was to have a black background and "Space"
Here is my take on this challenge that Denise came up with.

For my black background I used Dylusions black paint and applied it with a make up wedge.
I then wanted to add a cool background, so I splattered white paint, dry brushed and I also stippled the white paint.

I used a poppy stamp from Penny Black and coloured it up with my Copic markers.
I also cut the top off of some of them so they could face the opposite way that they stamped.

I used the word "Space" as the other ladies used space like outer space.

Here are all of our pages together.
I just love everyones take on these challenges!

I was making this page while my friends were here...I'm thinking I created it during National Scrapbooking Day...yup, always behind I am, lol
Because my friends were over, I would sneak in my scrapbook room and do a bit of recording.
So here is my process video on this page.

Listen to Your Heart art journal page

A few groups of my friends and I have some ongoing art challenges.
Some are new to it and some have been doing it longer than I have.
My friend Sharon came up with this challenge, the theme of this challenge was "Love" and to use "strips"

Can I say how much I love how this page turned out!!
When I look at this page, I see me!
I have always said I really don't have a specific style as I love all types of styles.
But this page has inking, and stamping, a heart, burgundy and contrast...so much of what I love!!!
I do have to point out that this page was inspired by an art canvas I had seen on Pinterest "here"

Let us start with the process.
I inked the whole page with distress ink and then stamped it with a script text in the same colour ink.
I love the subtle look to this background.

Then I did what I love to do and that is to ink the edges.
I used 3 different colours of ink to give it a old aged look.
Inking does take a lot of time to do, but it is soooo worth it.
I then added some stamping here and there.

I love how this colour pops off of the page.
This heart started out as a white piece of cardstock and I coloured it with spritzes and inks.
I also did some stamping on it with the same script stamp as well as stamping with some flowers and other odd and end stamps, and of course I inked the edges.

Here is another look at the inked edges as well as the ripped part of the page.
I added some of the same spritzed paper behind the rip for some more pop to this page.

Wondering where the strips came into this page?
I used long stamps as my strips as well as a strip of key washi tape on the top left and bottom right of the page.

I also inked where I was going to place the heart for more depth.

Here is the completed page!

Here are all of the art journal pages with this theme "Love" & "Strips"
I love how they are all so different, but using the same themes!

And look...I did a process video!!!

Thank you so much for visiting me on my blog today :)
I hope you all have a very Creative Day.

Be Bold, Be Bright, Be Beautiful. Art journal page

Another art journal challenge!!!
This time I was the one that picked the theme...can you guess what it was?
I wanted to play with some bright bold colours :)
I think I achieved my goal ;)

First off I used some Dylusions paint to colour my background.
I love the bold bright colours these paints have...odd that I haven't used them that much.
I honestly did not like the background when I first started out.
After adding the colours, I then used a few different stencils to add some texture to the background.

I used these same Dylusions paints, but in different colours for the butterflies.
I just added the colour on some white cardstock, stamped the images and then fussy cut them out.
This one is my favourite...It is a Tim Holtz butterfly stamp (Thank you Lesli for lending it to meπŸ’— )

This stamp is from Inkadinkado.

I also added some rub-ons to the background before adhering the butterflies.

I used these letter stickers Sharon gave me that she picked up from a discount store...they were for signs, but I have used them on so many projects!!
The sparkly "beautiful" came from a sticker pack.

I also did a process video on how I created this page :)

I am posting this challenge on my Facebook Group Tracy's Treasures Shares.
It doesn't have to be an art journal page, it could be a card, scrapbook page, knitting, quilting...what ever your medium of choice is.
I would love if you joined us there...I would love to see what you create.

Art journal challenge page for December

I had mentioned in this post "I see a wish" that my new friend and journal buddy Stephanie and I have been challenging each other to do an art journal page a month.
December's challenge was to use a Christmas song/carol on our pages as well as a border.
I chose Winter Wonderland for my title...I love that song, and around here in the winter...it really does look like a winter wonderland.
The inspiration for this page came from my Christmas cards I sent out this past Christmas.

I have been playing around with adding more texture to my pages.
Usually my pages are pretty flat, but I am having fun and like the look of the texture.
First I added some music note tissue paper and then added colour with my Faber-Castels gelatos and my Tim Holtz distress crayons.
Lastly I added some texture paste (which is like dry wall compound) with a stencil.
Being that my texture paste is light based and not a heavy based, the colour from underneath came through.

For my journaling, I used some of my letter stickers.
I had coloured the smaller stickers with my Copics as I didn't have the colour I wanted.
Now don't you just love those silver glitter stickers!!!

I used my Stampin' Up build a bird punch to make the cardinals.
The tree was a stamp, that was to tiny, so I just extended the branches with acrylic paint.
I used Aleene's True Snow to make the snow...I have had this product for over 15 yrs and was surprising shocked that it wasn't dried up, it was just like it was the day I purchased it :)
Lastly I added some which speckles with a toothbrush and watered down paint.

And here is Stephanie's page :)
She joked with me that she was going to do "Grandma got run over by a Reindeer", lol.
I think "Let it Snow" was a better choice though ;)
I love the brightness of her page and that not only did Stephanie use music note tissue paper for her background, she also used a music note stencil and added her texture paste over it.
I also like that her snowman is made with text paper.
Beautifully done Stephanie :)

Here are both of our pages together :)

I love how different our pages are :)

Our challenge for January is to use a girl image on our pages.
I know it is short notice, but join in if you would like, we would love to see your pages.

I hope you all have a very Creative day :)

Tracy :)
