The Magic of Movies tag swap

My friend Stephanie and I have been doing art journal challenges for each other for a couple of years on and off now.
This is the second tag swap that I have participated in with her and her friends.
The theme for this tag swap was "The Magic of the Movies"
As many know I love scary, horror and Zombie movies....but figuring not everyone likes those types of movies...I went with a general movie theme.

I stamped these tickets from the Tim Holtz stamp collection on the same paper as the tag itself and then fussy cut them out.
I also stamped the word background because I thought the text looked like those old time theatre posters.
If you look closely I added some of Vicki Boutin's iridescent glaze under the black film strip.
I used a piece of the discarded black film strip as as stencil to use with the glaze.

The black film strip was punched out with a mini punch, that was put in a border gadget (like a border punch type of thing) where the paper is moved with each punch.
There is an acetate film strip, by Tim Holtz, which I stapled on top of the black film strip.

I had fun playing with my mixed mediums.
If you look at the bottom corner of the tag I used Inkagold with a stencil to look like a film reel.

In this photo below, you can see the Glaze I used with the stencil I made.
I also used washi tape.

Here are the ladies that did the swap this time.
I am the one in the burgundy Stephanie is the one holding her selfie stick :)

Only 3 of us were in this swap this time.
Me Stephanie and her mom Louann.
Mt tag is on the left, Stephanie's (The Littlest Mermaid inspired) is the center and Louann's is on the right.
They all turned out so beautiful and unique.

Oh look!!!
I did a video of my tag...not only to share more of this tag with you, but I also did a process video on how I created it.

Thank you all for visiting me today and I hope you all have a very Creative Day :)

March 2016 Tag

I really need to stay on top of things…..last day of the month again, and just getting Tim's Tag done.
What I really liked about this tag, was the use of the corrugated cardboard..cool right!!

I ordered a couple more of those FB books from My Social Book, and the cardboard they packaged them in was perfect!!
Not to thick and easy to peel off parts of the top layer.

After distressing it a bit, I had to cut it into a tag shape.

Tim used his foil/glue.
I could not find my foil…it isn't Tim's but I remember doing this many moons ago where I would use Aleene's Tack it Over and Over and then apply the foil to the tacky surface.
I knew I had to get on this tag…so I came up with a different option.
I decided to use gold embossing powder.
I used a make up sponge to pick up some Versa Mark, pounced it through the stencil, then added the embossing powder and heat set it.

See how it shines..not the same as the foil..but use what we have right ;)
I then flicked some black paint on as well.
I like the distressed look.

Now for the tag that goes under this.
The butterfly die cut also comes with a matching embossing folder….love that…Thanks Tim :)
I embossed the butterflies and then added some colour.
I liked the colour, but then kind of mucked it up by adding more colour :(
So to rectify this, with a light hand I picked up some black paint on my make up sponge and grazed over the embossed part of the butterflies.

Lined up the two tags and adhered them together.

I added a word plaque after adding some paint to it.
I wanted to add a bit more spring colour to this tag.

Bonus, I got 2 corrugated butterflies out of this project when I cut the shapes out :)

Here is my tag again :)
I added the same eyelash wool to the top of the tag as I used to attach the word plaque with.

I am not sure why….but not loving my tags I have done so far this year.
Oh well…they were still fun to make and that is what is important right :)

I hope you all have a very Creative Day :)

February 2016 Tag

Good thing we have an extra day this year...or I wouldn't have completed my February tag for Tim Holtz "12 Tags of 2016"...and I want to complete them all this year.
Here is how my tag turned out...so different from Tim's...and so different from what I started with.

Tim is revisiting past techniques this year.
Funny thing is the techniques he has been sharing so far, have been ones I have not done before, as I missed a year here and there.
The one technique I thought was interesting was to use distress stain and ink up your stencil, then flip the stencil on the tag to transfer the ink to the tag.
I do not like how mine turned out...but no worries, I will save this tag for another month, October maybe since it looks like blood splatter, lol.

So I went a whole different route.
I also thought his technique to sprinkle embossing powder to embossing paste was a pretty cool idea as well...so lets see how this one turned out, lol.
I didn't want to fill in all of the hearts with embossing paste, so used sticky notes to mask them off.

To be able to see my exact placement, I held it up to the light....looks pretty good to me :)

They turned out nice a crisp..perfect!

Now when Tim Holtz warns you about what NOT to do during a technique...my advice, Listen, lol
I have done this many times and many times I get the same result, why....because I am impatient, lol.
I was to sprinkle the embossing powder to the embossing paste and let air dry...not dry it with my heat gun.
But being the rebel that I am thought...what the heck, whatever happens happens.
Yup, the embossing paste bubbled, lol.
Which I am fine with, now I have puffy gold hearts.

As much as I like the crisp gold on the black, I thought it was a bit plain, even when I added my other elements.
So I decided to use some white ink to stamp some text.

Then I forgot to take photos of the rest of the process, lol.
So here are some close ups of the completed tag.

This here may be my favourite part of the tag.
Love all of these metal embellishments.
The game piece spinner and screw thingy are from Tim Holtz, not sure where I picked up the heart locket, but isn't it so pretty :)

One last look at my tag for this month.

I didn't do a video for this tag as I have a pretty nasty cold.
I didn't think listening to me cough, sniffle and sneeze would make for a good video, lol.

I hope you were all creative today :)

January 2016 Tag

I am trying to get in more creative time this year.
And by helping me with this goal, I have decided to do Tim's 2016 Tags.

So here is my January 2016 Tag!!!
I have done these tags for 2 years, and every year for January, it is a New Year type of theme.
For this year I wanted to do something a bit different, so went for a Snowflake theme.
Up here where I live January is one of the coldest months with plenty of snow.....so I thought it was fitting to do my tag to reflect that...plus I wanted to do some colour :)

Ok, lets get started.
First we need a tag ;)
Tim has some foil paper, where I don't, so I use my own way of adding foil to the tag.
I have done this many times and it works great!!
I use foil tape...the type that is used to tape duct work :)
Here is the first video I did on using this product "Foil tag".

The foil on this tag stuck where I didn't want it..see the bit of tag showing at the bottom...this stuff sure is Sticky.

Because I am doing a snowflake theme, I grabbed this cute snowflake embossing strip...cute right?!
I forgot to take a photo after I embossed it...it looked pretty in just the silver :)

I wanted to add some colour to my tag, as in the past years of my January tags, were more a vintage look to them.
So I added alcohol ink to the foil.
Isn't this so so pretty :)
I ran a second embossing folder to the top of my tag as I loved the look of the icicles hanging from the top of the tag.

Tim is revisiting some old techniques.
For this tag he was playing with the chalkboard technique.
Honestly I didn't really like that one when I did it years ago.
Not sure if it was the technique I didn't like or how my tag turned out...but whichever it was, I changed it up ;)
I heat embossed my image with multi colours of embossing powder.
I later did add some chalk around the edges of the paper, just to say I did some chalking, lol.

Now for some embellishing.
I know I have some metal snowflake charms in my stash...but do you think I could find them?!?
Nope
I really need to get into that craft room and do some organizing in there.
So what I did was grab these white plastic snowflake buttons and altered them.
Again I used the alcohol inks to add some colour and cut the backs off of the buttons.

I used one of these sentiment word bands and added washi tape that I cut thinner to each end.
A video on how I cut my "washi tape to be thinner"
I also added a bit of white paint and then buffed it off to read the words a bit better.

Here is the completed tag.

I also did a full tutorial on how I put this tag together :)
If you would like to watch it on my YouTube channel...just click the link :) "Tracy's Treasures24"

I hope you all enjoyed my tag and how I put it together.

I hope you all have a very Creative Day :)

March 2014 Tag

As promised, here is my tag for March.
As you all know I am following Tim Holtz 2014 Monthly Tag challenge.
Here is my finished tag….I'm early, its not the 31st yet, teehee.

I thought I had a stamp set that was similar to the one that Tim Holtz used.
I searched for it and couldn't find it. Then I checked the catalogue of the company that I thought I had got it from, and they don't carry it.
So I must have dreamt it. I know I have some pretty creative dreams, but this is crazy, lol.

My tag took on a different look than Tim's, but I used the same techniques and love that it has such a pretty Spring look to it. Especially since we received more snow today.

Here is a closer look to the stamped image.
To give the image more colour, I used Distress markers and used them like water colour.
I love to use these markers for water colouring :)
I also used Tim's tree branch die to make it look like the nest is nestled in the tree ;)
I don't have Tim's spritzer (I think Stampin' Up sold it at one time), so I just used my sponge applicator to add the distress ink to the dot stencil.

I also cut the bottom part of the flower so I could tuck the branch under them. I wanted it to look like the nest is intwined on the branch. Just like a real bird nest.

And look, I have a bonus for you…a video on my finished tag and some of the process I did to get this look :)

2014 February Tag

Just in the nick of time…..again.
So much for me getting these tags made by the 15th of each month.
Well here is my Tag for the 2014 Tim Holtz monthly tags.

I had made my own stencil for the hearts in the background.
I also altered this grunge board arrow to suit my needs.

Not a fan of this chalkboard look or technique but I did it.
I do love the sparkly heart though :)
Reminds me of Dorothy's shoes, I had a a pair :)

I did a video in which I share more on how I made my tag with the supplies I have.
You can watch the video on my YouTube channel.
